The Wakefield Series

The Wakefield Series features two main protagonists, DI Colin Strong and his best friend from primary school days, journalist, Bob Souter. The pair have an acute understanding and, despite incongruous careers, they investigate crime in different ways, sometimes complimenting, sometimes clashing, putting strain on their relationship.

Book 2 of The Tendring Series.

1977. Clacton on the north Essex coast. Despite previous friction between them, DS Cyril Claydon can’t believe his DI, John ‘Dick’ Barton, is involved in a murder, despite evidence linking him to the victim and the crime scene. When Barton is the last person to visit his old boss in hospital before he too dies in mysterious circumstances, Cyril and Barton wonder if there is some sort of vendetta going on.

The complicated entanglement of an old crime with suspected rule bending and a new killer on the loose, means Cyril and the team have their work cut out to get to the truth.

Hooks you in on the first page with an intriguing crime scene. The end twist is great. The story is a clever balance of pace and well-crafted characters. Distressed can be read as a stand alone novel, although it leads on well from Disposal where we first meet the police team.

Book 3 of The Tendring Series.

Incredibly evocative of the period, especially with the little references to actual historical facts of the time. For anyone who is a fan of 60’s/70’s detective characters (Gently, Endeavour, Dalgleish) this is a must read series
